Packing Tips For Blissdom

I have exactly 3 days until I need to get on a plane to Mississauga via Toronto for my second annual Blissdom Canada conference.

Am I thrilled? YES.

Am I packed? NO!

This is so not like me. I’m a planner. I’m a list person. I’m totally not prepared.

So this is what’s happening today. I’m picking and packing outfits for my upcoming trip and sharing my packing tips for Blissdom with you as I go along. This is happening right now people, are you ready? Good.

Tip #1 Don’t over-think it

There’s nothing worse than standing in front of your jam packed closet and thinking to yourself, “I have nothing to wear”. Don’t over think your outfits. You know what you like, you know what looks good on you and you know what makes you feel good. Wear that.

Tip #2 Re-purpose Items

Reduce the weight and  save space in your luggage by planning outfits that re-purpose items over multiple days. Bring 1 killer stylish pair of flats and wear them with a skirt one day and your skinny jeans the next. Wear your black pencil jeans with a blouse and a blazer one day and then wear them with a cute sweater the next day. Pack less from your closet so you can bring home more of the great swag!

Tip #3 Be Comfortable

You’ll be on your feet ALL DAY LONG so be comfortable. Don’t wear your sitting-only-stilletos first thing in the morning, unless you’re previous job was acting on Sex and the City. Don’t wear pants that are too tight to sit in either. And most of all remember that you don’t have to look like you’re going to yoga to be comfortable. Stylish should always be comfortable in my opinion. I’m going to be wearing my new custom made dress from Dress Mavens. It’s the definition of comfort and style and it was made to fit my exact measurements. Watch for me in my purple dress at the sessions during the day and right thru to the party in the evening. Make sure you stop by and meet the Dress Mavens on sponsors row to see how it’s all done.

Tip #4 Be Approachable

Open yourself up to all the great things that will happen for you at Blissdom. This starts with what you wear when you get dressed in the morning. Leave your power suit for the corporate negotiations. Opt for something business casual like jeans and a blazer, leggings and a tunic, skinny pants and a sweater. You’re goal is not to intimidate people but you draw them to your magnetic personality. Don’t forget the best accessory to any outfit is a confident posture and a warm smile!

Tip #5 Think in Layers

When I’m on my feet working the crowd, talking to sponsors and meeting new people all while carrying my tote bag, I’m on fire but not in the “look at me go” kind of way, more in the blazing temperatures like the surface of the sun kind of way. I will strip down to cool off and when I sit in the conference room to listen to the speakers, I freeze. Layers people. Always have layers.

Tip #6 Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize

The best fashion secret I can share with you is that accessories are your secret weapon. You can take an inexpensive dress and with the right accessories you can make it look like something out of a fashion magazine. At Blissdom, you’re best accessories are your business cards (bring them, share them, collect them), power chargers for all your devices, old school ball point pen and note book (because sometimes jotting notes is just easier), water bottle (stay hydrated), gum (fresh breath wins every time), light weight tote bag to lug all your stuff plus the swag you’ll pick up along the way.

So you should be all packed and ready after reading this…I’ll see you there!
