Prepping For Blissdom

Blissdom Canada

Phew, I’m still here. I don’t know about y’all but the first 3 weeks of school have been like running a marathon. Getting up early to get the kids to the bus in the morning is brutal. I am so not a morning person. Anyway, here I am back in business.

I am thrilled to be attending my first ever Blissdom Canada conference next month. Man, I gotta be honest, when I decided to start a blog I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would be exposed to so many great opportunities. I’m going to see a live taping of the new CTV morning talk show, The Social. I get to check out a brand new Chevrolet Malibu and hit the open road with it for a few days.  And I get to party in my House Of Hygge onesie with a few hundred other awesome bloggers at a PJ party. Fun, right?

So in the last few days I’ve been reading everything I can about what to expect at Blissdom from what to wear to what to pack. I don’t think I can be any more prepared for this event and then I got to thinking…Am I ready? Do I have everything I need? How should I be prepping for Blissdom? What can I put on my list?

Oh yes, there is a list.

1) Make sure you have all your social network passwords! I can’t tell you how many times I have had to reset my HootSuite password 2 minutes before a twitter party.

2) Do  app and operating system updates at home after doing a back up of your data. Everyone is buzzing about the new iOS7 but if you forget to do your update before you get on the plane, then don’t bother doing it until you get home just in case something goes horribly wrong.

3) Check that your business cards are up to date and that you have enough.

4) Practice your tag line. You will be asked a million times, “what do you blog about?” Do you have an answer? Write a 1 liner and memorize it. Make it short and simple, like, “I blog about all the different varieties of mushrooms and how to grow them.”

5) Plan your outfits per day. My biggest pet peeve while traveling is when I lug a bunch of extra clothes all the way across the world and then I don’t wear half of them, what a waste! Bring only what you need so that you’ll have loads of room to bring home ALL THAT SWAG!

6) Bring your A-game. I’m an introvert. No seriously I am. And big crowds of people can make me anxious but for 3 days I need to smile and be open and swallow the fear of being the first to engage. What’s the worst that could happen? I won’t melt, I hope.

I won’t end my list with something cheesy like 7) Have Fun! because come on, as if I need to put THAT on the list.

T-minus 11 days till I leave for Toronto. I can’t wait.

I am so impressed at all the great opportunities there are to connect with other bloggers and to share ideas and a good time. I would like to redefine chaos as this “several hundred bloggers partying in onesies”. Post photos! I can’t wait to see.
