My Bucket List For 2016

WOW, 2016 is already off to an amazing start. Oh, hey, Happy New Year everyone! I know I’m a little late in wishing you all a happy new year but seriously, this is the first time I’ve had a chance to sit down with you guys. And I’ve missed you!

My bucket list for 2016

Usually around this time of year, you’ll see countless blog posts from people with their “year in review” stuff. I’m not going to do that, but I will tell you that 2015 was definitely a good year. Lots of positive things happened and everyone was happy and healthy. Oddly enough, it wasn’t until the last days of 2015 did I actually realize how good of a year it was.

Instead, I’m going to focus on things that I would like to accomplish in 2016. No, I’m not going to list off resolutions because I believe that resolutions are made to be broken and are usually set up to fail. Who am I kidding, of course I’m going to eat chocolate once in a while. Of course I’m going to want french fries on occasion, I’m human and I’m allowed.

I’d like to call this my bucket list for 2016 because really, we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow in this life, let alone a year or 20 to accomplish our list of dreams.

So without further ado, here is my bucket list for 2016:

  • Drive to Vancouver – It’s been well over a decade since I’ve driven all the way to Vancouver from Calgary. It’s one of the most amazing scenic drives and I never make the time to do it. Who wants to road trip with me?
  • See the northern lights – You’d think that because I live in Canada, I would see the northern lights from my living room window but the truth is, I’ve never seen them, ever and apparently if I was to drive outside of the city on the right night, I could see them. Sounds easy enough.
  • 5k a day workouts all year long – I started this routine of running/walking 5k every day, months ago and it feels great. I’m down 10lbs but it really wasn’t about the weight. I want to be in the best shape I can be by the time I turn 40, which is coming up in 2017, gulp! Wait, what? 2017?
  • Travel to 3 places I’ve never been before – I love travel! But as with most people, I tend to revisit places that I like because I’ve been there before. This year, lets go somewhere NEW and find new adventures there! Hmmm, Australia sounds nice!
  • Speak at a Social Media conference – After attending many great conferences, I would like to try my hand at owning the mic. I love helping people and I love the positive energy around conferences. People are so open to ideas and opinions and want to learn from others. I’ve been an ambassador and I’ve been a leader of round table discussions as well as shared the stage for a Q&A session. I think I’m ready, it would be so amazing to share some of my experiences and what I’ve learned. Might need a dose of Ativan for this one.
  •  Learn to surf – Every time I’m near the ocean I watch people surfing and struggle somewhere between terrorizing fear and overwhelming desire to grab a board and run into the waves. I need to let go of the fear…of dying by a shark.
  • Learn to golf – Ok, this one is more of a bucket list item from my husband. He’s been asking me to learn to golf for years but with 4 kids and no free time, it was never on the list. I’m feeling like the closer he gets to retirement, the more prepared I need to be for the eventual “couples golf” games. FORE!

This seems like a lot to pack into 12 months, well actually 11 months now but I’m confident that 2016 is going to be a year of open doors, new adventures, personal growth challenges and so much more. Happy 2016 everyone!

What’s on your bucket list for the coming year?
