Back To School

It’s been 14 school days and I just want to tell you all how AMAZING it is to finally have 4 kids in full day school. No, not just amazing, I mean ah-maze-ing! This is the culmination of more than 11 years of work. 11 years of having babies, driving babies to baby gym, meeting moms for play dates, nap times,  driving kids to pre-schools only to turn around and go back to pick them up 2 hours later and don’t even get me started on kindergarten. I can’t believe that I made it and here I am, in the freedom zone. Back to school couldn’t come fast enough for me this year. I was counting down the summer days until I could wave good-bye to them as they walked out the door before 8am and to be honest, right now, I don’t miss them. Hate me all you want. Judge me for being excited for some alone time but seriously, I deserve it. I need to be away from them so I can love them from afar and want them to come home at the end of the day so we can talk about all the wonderful independent things they did at school. I’m sure there’s an ancient Chinese proverb in there some where.

Back to school for the kids has also meant that I am back in the work force (from home) after more than a decade of being CEO of this busy household. While it is a huge adjustment to my schedule and where I spend my valuable “free” time, I am absolutely loving the sense of purpose and having a task list I can tick off every day. You know me, I love a good list. One thing on my list that’s not work related, is to catch up on all the shows I missed while I was chasing after the kids all summer long. Now that my oldest has started middle school (sniff, she’s growing up so fast…but I still don’t miss her) I think she’s ready to join me in my love of Glee. We’ve started watching it on Netflix together and she really likes it, no shock there.

Seems that all of a sudden the story lines around self-esteem and the pressures to fit in and the nonsense of pre-teen to teenage drama is completely relevant to Brigette and getting her ready for her middle school years all tossed together with the one thing she loves, song and dance! Kinda weird to be in a stage where I can actually watch TV with my kids and it’s not Dora or Sponge Bob.

Can I get a hell ya?

What are you watching with your kids right now?

I can feel your happiness in this post! As a mother of two boys myself, I know what its like to be home with them all day with no help while my husband is at work. Enjoy!
