Top 10 Good Things About The Hubs Going Away

When ever my husband goes away for work or work masquerading as golfing, I turn into “get it done” mom. Meals are planned weeks in advance. Fridge is stocked. House is clean. I need everything to be organized while he’s gone in order for me to feel like I have control of the situation. I miss him when he goes. The kids miss him when he goes. But to be honest, there are just a few, ok maybe 10. Here are the top 10 good things about the hubs going away.

1 • Stretch out in bed. I enjoy having a bed all to myself once in a while. No one rolling over or snoring.

2 • Full control of the TV remote. I can watch all my favourite shows and flick the channels as often as I please.

3 • No golf. No football. No hockey. No baseball. I do like attending live sports events. I’ll cheer and wear the team colours but when it’s on the TV…snooze!

4 • Popcorn all to myself. No creeping hand stealing my after-the-kids-go-to-bed treat.

5 • Chocolate dinner. I feel a lot less pressure to make any kind of effort for meals and if I’ve had a hard day with the kids, I’ll have popcorn and M&M’s for dinner or banana bread and a glass of milk. Of course I make sure my kids have a balanced meal with all of the food groups. Hot dogs are meat right?

6 • Showers, meh. If he’s not gonna smell me then why not stretch out showering one-more-day. So what if I went for a run today. Oh and yeah, same goes for the kids.

7 • Shaving, meh. This is my favourite part about him being away. Bikini line? What bikini line? It’s free range for all. Well, not for all, I guess. Just me. Think of all the razor blades I’m saving.

8 • A big break…from my “wifely” duties, from locking the door, from dirty dancing, from…well you get it right? (wink, wink) Once in a while I like to fall asleep without something poking me in the back (a knee, come on, get your mind out of the gutter).

9 • Sweats in the morning. Sweats in the afternoon. Sweats in the evening too. Nuff said.

10 • Tag team. The minute he walks in the door he takes over with the kids and the lunches and the homework and the music practice and I go back to my blog!

Welcome home honey!

  1. My boyfriend of 8 years (and we live together) is going away at the end of the week. I can’t wait to not shower, and have popcorn for supper.
