The Cross-Over Friend

Do you ever cross over friends to other groups? Wait, lemme splain.

I remember watching my favorite TV shows like Friends and Mad About You and on occasion one of the actors would do a cross over guest appearance on the other show. Like the time Phoebe’s identical twin sister Ursula, from Friends, showed up as the absent minded waitress in the local diner on Mad About You. At first it’s surprising and exciting to see all your favorite characters in the same place. Then you watch in anticipation to see if the chemistry will be there and if you will laugh and if you’ll love it or hate it and want her to do it again or not.

That’s how I feel when I have a friend cross over from one group to another.

You see, I have a couple of different pockets of friends in my circle. Some, I have been friends with since I was “Tiffany-long-legs” and others I met after I became a Mom. I have some friends who I work out with and some friends who I karaoke with and some friends I vacation with. I love them all and enjoy our time together as often as we can. Together they make up my tribe of peeps. I don’t often do it but on rare occasions there are  opportunities for a friend from 1 group to make an appearance in another group, hence the cross over.

I love Ursula on the show, Friends. She’s quirky and hilarious and fits in with the other characters on the show. Recently my “Ursula” was invited to join me at a party with my friends over at Mad About You. There were laughs, there was singing, there was cake and of course, wine and it was a network ratings hit. My wonderful group of lady friends embraced her and liked her immediately. Of course, I knew they would. Who doesn’t love Ursula. She’s effing hilarious. She sings a mean karaoke and she drinks red wine. What more do you need?

Cross over appearances don’t always work out, which is ok too. That’s when you simply put that character back on their original show and let them shine where they are.

I for one think that Ursula will be great as a regular on Mad About You.

Have you ever had a friend cross over? How did it go?

This totally brought a smile to my face! I am so happy to be in a pocket! I remember Miss Tiffany Long Legs from back in the day. Wow time flies.

  2. I haven’t tried that. But I’d sure like to have all my friends be friends with each other as well. That’ll be cool.
