5 Shows On Netflix That Will Make You Want To Travel
No, I don’t mean travel shows. We ALL love watching travel shows were some young hipster effortlessly strolls thru a market place in Thailand, pointing out how amazing the shopping is. Lately, I’ve been finding myself watching shows on Netflix where the locations and the background are just as interesting as the storylines. Beautiful cliffs, white sand beaches, ancient castles. All these settings are important characters in each show and they’re making me what to book a flight to see them for myself. Here are my top 5 shows on Netflix that will make you want to travel.
This was the first show I watched that took my breath away. The brilliance of the cinematography are almost distracting to the story but the stunning landscapes are too much to ignore. Broadchurch is a detective mystery series filmed in and around the UK villages of Dorset, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bristol. Trust me, you’ll want to see this show for the settings alone!
I did a happy dace when I saw that Outlander is finally on Netflix. Between the costumes, the rolling hills, the adventure and don’t forget the time travel, this show is a feast for the senses. Outlander is a historical time traveling fantasy series filmed in several locations including Doune Castle and the Scottish Highlands, Prague and in season 3 production goes to Cape Town, South Africa.
I love a good period piece and nothing makes me want to travel more than a beautiful old castle once lived in by royalty or at the very least a duke or earl. Downton Abbey is a beautiful example of a period piece from the early 1900’s filmed on location at Highclere Castle in north Hampshire, England. There are even tours going thru the old castle since the popularity of the show.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Hawaii is my happy place so I guess I don’t really need a show to make me want to travel there but Forgetting Sarah Marshall makes me feel like I’m back in the islands even just for a moment. This romantic comedy was filmed at the resort of Turtle Bay on the north shore of the island of Oahu. Aloha!
I’m totally putting this one on my bucket list. Trapped is a rare glimpse at a place that is actually a part of my children’s heritage. Trapped is a murder mystery series set in Iceland and although it seems to be in a constant state of winter, I’ve heard that the summer months are quite pleasant and beautiful.
Grab your passport, download episodes of some of these shows for on-the-plane viewing and see some of these beautiful backdrops. Well, we can dream, can’t we?
